Postdoc/Research Fellow, heat in urban Asia - Singapore

The Asia Research Institute (ARI) at the National University of Singapore invites applications for a full-time postdoc/research fellow.

Description

The Science, Technology and Society (STS) Cluster of the Asia Research Institute (ARI) is seeking an exceptional post-doctoral candidate to work under a Singapore Ministry of Education funded multi-disciplinary project titled 'Heat in Urban Asia: Past, Present and Future' directed by Associate Professors Gregory Clancey (PI) and Chang Jiat-Hwee (Co-PI), and Dr Fiona Williamson (Co-PI).

The successful candidate will work on or around one or more of the project’s central themes according to her/his specialism and interests. The core themes are:

1. Taking the City’s Temperature, an integrative analysis of quantitative data derived from instrumental temperature records with qualitative data from historic sources and oral histories.
2. Living with Heat, an exploration of how Asian city dwellers have (and will) cope with the quotidian discomforts of life in a hot environment, especially how heat exposure intersects with poverty and vulnerability.
3. Disastrous Heat, a focus on heat-related hazards including heatwaves and/or drought.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a first-class degree or equivalent, and a PhD in either history, STS, historical geography, historical climatology, sociology/public policy, along with a willingness to work across disciplines.

Preference will be given to candidates with the ability to conduct research in either Hong Kong, New Delhi, Wuhan (China), or Tokyo in addition to Singapore.

The successful applicant will receive an attractive monthly remuneration depending on experience and qualifications. Singapore citizens and permanent residents are eligible for central provident fund benefits.
